Understand Private Browsing Before Drawing Your Alphabet
BiblesClick ·
BiblesClick offers a unique way to interact with books like Genesis and the Song of Songs by using your own hand-drawn characters. However, because the application relies on local browser storage to save your unfinished drafts and finished alphabets, your browser settings play a critical role. Understanding how private browsing affects this storage is essential for protecting your creative effort.
How Local Storage Works
When you draw a letter in the BiblesClick editor, the progress is autosaved locally in your current browser. This allows you to close the tab and return later to finish your alphabet without losing your work. This feature is designed for convenience, ensuring that you don't have to complete all letters and punctuation marks in a single sitting before you start reading Psalms.
However, this local save is specific to the browser and device you are currently using. If you start an alphabet in one browser and then switch to another, your progress will not appear. The data stays within the 'environment' where it was created, which is why it is important to stick to one browser until you have finished and potentially synced your alphabet.
The Risk of Private Mode
Private or Incognito browsing modes are designed to discard all site data, including local storage, once the window is closed. If you use BiblesClick in a private window, your alphabet drawings will only exist for as long as that window stays open. The moment you exit the session, all your work on books like Proverbs or Exodus will be permanently erased.
To avoid this, always ensure you are using a standard browsing window when working on your BiblesClick alphabet. This allows the browser to retain the data between sessions. If you must use a public computer, be aware that clearing the site data or local storage will also remove your saved alphabets, as they are part of that local data set.
Protecting Your Drafts
Unfinished drafts are particularly vulnerable because they are not included in the optional account sync feature. Even if you are signed in, only completed active alphabets are synced; the individual letters you are currently working on in the editor are stored only on your machine. This makes it even more important to avoid private browsing during the creation phase.
A realistic limitation to keep in mind is that BiblesClick cannot recover data that has been cleared by your browser. If your settings are configured to 'clear cookies and site data on exit,' your alphabets will be lost every time you close your browser. You must manually adjust your browser settings to allow BiblesClick to maintain its local storage if you want to keep your work over the long term.
Best Practices for Saving
To ensure your personalized reading experience in English, Spanish, Italian, or Portuguese remains intact, make a habit of checking your browser settings. If you plan on a major project like drawing a complete alphabet for the book of Numbers, verify that you are in a standard session. You can also name and save up to five finished alphabets to help organize your progress.
By understanding these technical boundaries, you can use BiblesClick with confidence. The platform provides a beautiful way to see the biblical text in your own hand, but it requires a stable local environment to function best. Keep your browser settings in mind, and your hand-drawn alphabets will be ready whenever you want to return to your reading.
